Teachers’ Institute
Each summer Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier offers professional educators an opportunity to study the Civil War and Reconstruction through classes that combine classroom experience with tours and hands-on activities at Pamplin Historical Park.
Seminar Classes
Learn new teaching methods, activities, and strategies to use in the classroom that will engage students as they learn about slavery, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. Exchange ideas with colleagues from a wide range of educational backgrounds and experiences. Tour area sites and realize the wealth of educational resources available in central Virginia. Discover ways to make history dynamic, meaningful, and alive in your classroom.
We are offering a 5-day seminar July 10-14, 2017 entitled Practical Applications for Teaching Slavery, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. The program will be held from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily with a continental breakfast provided at 8:30am. Lunch is on your own. Participants will earn 30 VDOE Professional Development points. Registration required, space is limited.

Teacher’s Rally Camp
Rally Camp weekend is an overnight program hosted at our popular Civil War Adventure Camp facility.
This unique camp experience offers an authentic hand-on adventure. For two days travel back in time to 1865 and live the life of a Civil War soldier. As a newly enlisted private, you will don your uniform, shoulder your musket, and march off to a new adventure!

Teacher’s Day Out
Our Teachers’ Day Out program will focus on the student experience, putting you in their shoes. Spend a fun day dedicated to teaching the experience of the common Civil War soldier. Features lesson and methodology discussion.

- Registration for all Teachers’ Institute programs begins January 25.
- Students may sign up by calling 804-861-2408 or emailing Member Services.
- Tuition may be paid by check, cash, or credit.
- All Teachers’ Institute programs are eligible for VDOE Professional Development Points for license recertification
Location
All Teachers’ Institute programs will be conducted at Pamplin Historical Park near Petersburg, Virginia.
Lodging
Participants may stay at Holiday Inn – Petersburg North / Fort Lee or Hampton Inn – Petersburg / Southpark Mall at discounted rates. Tell the booking agent you are with the “Pamplin Historical Park Summer Institute” to get these rates.
Full overnight accommodations and meals are provided for Rally Camp participants at our Civil War Adventure Camp facilities.
