The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier
The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier is one of America’s outstanding Civil War museums. A winner of national and international awards for excellence, the 25,000-square-foot museum is home to the exhibit”Duty Called Me Here, The Civil War Store, The Pamplin Board Room, and the Remembrance Wall.
“Duty Called Me Here”
This seven-gallery exhibit brings visitors face-to-face with the nearly three million Americans who became soldiers during the Civil War. Using an Orpheo digital device and guided by a personal “soldier comrade,” visitors follow the experiences of Civil War soldiers using interactive computers, videos, life-sized dioramas, more than 1,000 original objects, and the multi-sensory battlefield simulation, “Trial By Fire.” A national travel guide has described “Duty Called Me Here” as “simply one of the best museums in Virginia.”
The Pamplin Board Room
The Pamplin Board Room is a 1,120-square-foot interactive exhibit that focuses on the lives of two of America’s most successful businessmen, Robert B. Pamplin, Sr., and Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr. The exhibit features a touch-screen kiosk, 13 wall panels adorned with Presidential letters, photographs, books, awards, and news and magazine articles. Family albums and scrapbooks provide visitors with a better understanding of the Pamplins’ dedication to family, history and education.
The Remembrance Wall
Beneath the words “In Memory of Those Who Served,” are the names of those who responded to the call of duty during the Civil War. Pamplin Historical Park is proud to offer visitors an opportunity to honor an ancestor or any other Civil War Soldier. For a small fee, the name and military unit of the soldier as well as the name of the purchaser will be etched into a silver-toned plaque and prominently displayed on this handsome mahogany wall.
“The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier has elevated the standard for interpreting Civil War history through media and museums.” |
