SUMMARY:Petersburg Civil War Round Table at Pamplin
DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen circumstances\, Ed Bearss will not be with us for the October PCWRT meeting. Instead\, our own Director of Education\, Interpretation\, Visitor Services & Collections\, Tim Talbott will speak on “Visionary or Iconoclastic: Maj. Gen. Patrick Cleburne and His Proposal to Emancipate and Arm Slaves for the Confederacy.” \nOctober’s Round Table guest speaker is the nationally recognized award-winning author and historian Ed Bearss. Mr. Bearss will be speaking on the “April 1\, 1865\, Battle of Five Forks”.  Mr. Bearss is a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II\, a military historian and author known for his work on the American Civil War and World War II eras. He is also a popular tour guide of historic battlefields for The Smithsonian Associates. Bearss served as Chief Historian of the National Park Service from 1981 to 1994 and is currently Chief Historian Emeritus. \nThe Petersburg Civil War Roundtable (PCWRT) will meet the first Thursday of each month (except June\, July\, and August) at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm. Annual membership is $40.00. Individuals who are already members of Pamplin Historical Park can become members of PCWRT for $20.00. Non-members can attend for $5.00 each meeting. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 23rd Annual Civil War Symposium at Pamplin Historical Park in 2019 and hear from some of the nation’s greatest Civil War scholars as they talk about “Small Battles\, Big Results”. \nThe authors and topics are as follows: \nMr. Peter Cozzens – Battle of Iuka \nMr. Jerry Desmond – Battle of Ringgold \nMr. Rod Gragg – Battle of Fort Fisher \nMr. Jeff Hunt – Battle of Mine Run \nMr. James Morgan – Battle of Ball’s Bluff \nDr. Timothy Smith – Champion Hill \nDr. Brian Steel Wills – Battle of Fort Pillow \nThe Symposium begins on Friday night with a reception at the Park where attendees and speakers can meet and enjoy refreshments. Saturday is filled with lectures and opportunities to purchase published works by the speakers for autographs and participation in a silent auction. Sunday will feature additional speakers and a panel discussion. \nSymposium pricing is $339.00 per attendee\, which includes all lectures\, the Friday night reception\, two mid-morning coffee breaks\, two lunches\, and a Saturday night banquet.
