SUMMARY:2026 Symposium Optional Tour: The Battle of North Anna
DESCRIPTION:Every symposium begins with our optional tour which takes attendees on a day-long related adventure prior to the first evening speaker on Friday. This year\, you can join Pamplin Park staff as we explore the often forgotten Battle of North Anna. Sandwiched between the brutal bookends of Spotsylvania and Cold Harbor\, The Battle of North Anna is filled with stories of opportunities found and lost\, acts of bravery and cowardice\, strategic brilliance and tactical failure. \nThe tour will leave from the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier at Pamplin Historical Park promptly at 8:00 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m. Stops will include the Massaponax Church\, Carmel Baptist Church\, The Fox House at Ellington Manor\, North Anna Battlefield Park and others along the way. A catered lunch will be provided (included in your registration fee). Reservations are required and space is limited. Registration is on a first-come\, first-served basis. Full payment is due upon registration. Refunds will be issued\, minus a $10 administrative fee\, through September 25\, 2026. No refunds will be issued after that date. \nSpace is limited and preregistration is required. DESCRIPTION:The conference will be held on Friday\, October 16 through Sunday\, October 18\, 2026 at Pamplin Historical Park’s Education Center in Dinwiddie\, Virginia and will feature presentations from seven outstanding historians: Chris J. Hartley\, James A. Hessler\, Robert I. Girardi\, Dr. Jennifer M. Murray\, Dr. Brooks D. Simpson\, Jeffry Wert and Dr. Brian Steel Wills. \nAny era is full of colorful personalities who may be known for their temperament and the Civil War is no different. Whether in personal life\, in camp or on the battlefield leaders have been known to blow up at subordinates or even superiors.
