SUMMARY:Roundtable: 1862 Peninsula Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Join speaker J. Michael Moore as he shares the story of “The Peninsula Campaign.” \nJ. Michael Moore is employed by the City of Newport News and serves as curator for Lee Hall Mansion and Historic Endview. Moore received a bachelor of arts in history from Christopher Newport University and a master of arts in history\nfrom Old Dominion University. During his tenure with the City\, he has curated exhibits at several local historic sites\, developed historic signage\, and led battlefield tours in Maryland\, North Carolina\, Virginia\, and West Virginia. Working with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources\, he has placed Causey’s Mill\, Endview Plantation\, Lee’s Mill\, and Whitaker’s Mill on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition\, Michael is a popular lecturer for CNU’s LifeLong Learning Society. Moore has co-authored two books – The\nPeninsula Campaign of 1862: A Military Analysis in 2005 and Yorktown’s Civil War Siege: Drums Along the Warwick in 2012. In addition\, he has served as the editor and photographic editor for twelve books and written articles for Virginia\nCavalcade\, North &amp; South\, Military Collector &amp; Historian\, and Mulberry Island\nNotes. In recognition of his work in public history\, the Governor of Kentucky\ncommissioned Moore a Kentucky Colonel in 2014. He is a Newport News native\nand resides in Historic Yorktown. \nThe Petersburg Civil War Roundtable (PCWRT) will meet the first Thursday of each month (except for June\, July and August) at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm. Annual membership is $40.00. Individuals who are already members of Pamplin Historical Park can become members of PCWRT for $20.00. Non-members can attend for $5.00 each meeting. SUMMARY:4th Annual Breakthrough Car Show
DESCRIPTION:Join in the fun of this automotive extravaganza. Experience the sights and sounds of elegant autos from yesteryear to the technologically advanced super cars of today at the historic Hart Farm\, which is part of Pamplin Historical Park located near Petersburg\, Virginia. The Breakthrough Car Show is open to all makes\, models and years of vehicles and anyone can bring out their ride and participate in the show. \nThe first 150 registered show vehicles receive goody bags and dash plaques. Pre-register your single vehicle by May 5\, 2023 for $15.00 or vehicle registration is $20.00 per vehicle thereafter and at the show. \nShow day registration begins at 8:00 am. Participant’s Choice judging will result in over 60 awards. The award presentation will take place at 2:30 pm. Spectator parking and show admission is free. A reduced “day of show only” Pamplin Historical Park admission will be available for those who want to explore the 424 acres of battlefields\, historic homes\, museums and more. \nVendors will have food\, drinks and more throughout the day. Everyone can take part in a silent auction\, door prizes and more. \nRain date TBA. All proceeds from this event benefit Pamplin Historical Park. This event is in partnership with Car Club Council of Central Virginia. \nLocated near Petersburg\, Virginia\, Pamplin Historical Park is about 30 minutes south of Richmond and is convenient to both Interstates 95 and 85 and US Highways 1 and 460. SUMMARY:Memorial Day Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier will offer a full schedule of daily programs this Memorial Day. The Park will open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and activities are included with regular museum admission. \n\nThe recreated 124th New York Infantry will demonstrate the life of a Civil War soldier with camp life and drill throughout the day. An display of Medals of Honor can also be viewed throughout the day.\n\n\nA viewing of “We Are Americans: Air Force Academy Tribute to Memorial Day” will be shown at 10:00 am followed by a Breakthrough Battlefield tour at 11:00 am. A special ceremony will take place at 1:00 pm with remarks made by the executive director\, a color guard of soldiers from US Army Fort Gregg-Adams and the playing of TAPS.\n\n\n\nAfternoon programming includes a “Music that Moves the Military” presentation and demonstration followed by a presentation on Mortuary Affairs by US Army Sergeant 1st Class\, Richard Garcia a Mortuary Affairs Specialist at 3:00 pm. Mortuary Affairs is part of the US Army Quartermaster Corps whose duties include locating and identifying remains in the field\, ensuring safe transport of the deceased and their belongings\, and assisting with arrangements and military honors at their burial site.\n\n\n\nAll activities and programs are included with regular daily paid admission.\n\n\nThis event is held in partnership with the Bank of Southside Virginia and Strosnider Chevrolet.
