SUMMARY:Volunteer Open Houses
DESCRIPTION:We offer fun volunteer opportunities to help preserve history\, and promote education! As President John F. Kennedy said\, “Every person can make a difference\, and every person should try.” Park staff will share information on volunteer opportunities at the Park and hold on-site interviews on Thursday\, January 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, Tuesday\, January. 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.\, Saturday\, February 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier\, located at 6125 Boydton Plank Road\, Petersburg\, VA 23803. \nThese volunteer recruitment open houses are held in preparation for the busy spring field trip and travel season. Volunteers are vital in assisting Park staff with visitor needs\, especially during the busy school season. \nVolunteers may assist in a variety of areas that focus on the Park’s goal to help preserve history and promote education. Volunteers from all walks of life are welcome to attend: mature teenagers who want to expand their life experience\, retirees who have time to do something they have always wanted to do\, unemployed citizens who want to keep their skills sharp\, and college students who want to give back to the community. \nThe question of why to volunteer is best summed up by former U.S. President George H. W. DESCRIPTION:Speakers William Waldrop and Mike Nusbaum will discuss “The CSS Richmond”. The Petersburg Civil War Roundtable (PCWRT) will meet the first Thursday of each month (except June\, July\, and August) at Pamplin Historical Park and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. SUMMARY:Educate for the Future on #GIVINGTUESDAY
DESCRIPTION:Join Pamplin Historical Park this December 3\, 2019 for #GivingTuesday as we celebrate by accepting donations to support the A. Wilson Greene Scholarship Fund which provides funding for schools struggling with field trip transportation costs. Help us reach our goal of $10\,000 to help fund the cost of motor coach rentals for under-funded schools. \n#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals\, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday\, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on December 3rd and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back. \nThe A. Wilson Greene Scholarship Fund (AWGSF) is a grant program that assists schools and other tour groups with financial support for transportation costs to attend field trips at Pamplin Historical Park. Pamplin Historical Park is aware that student groups are often prevented from scheduling field trips due to the cost of providing transportation. The AWGSF is designed to help defray the cost of transportation so that more students and other tour groups are able to experience the extraordinary programming offered at Pamplin Historical Park. \nFounded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y – a community and cultural center in New York City − #GivingTuesday inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in.
